Choosing a name for your dog…so many possibilities!
Here are some general guidelines to consider:
- Keep the “call” name fairly short (one or two syllables). The “paper” name for registration purposes can be longer and fancier 🙂
- Make it personal. Some owners choose a name in reference to a special person, favorite place, or interests/hobbies.
- Â Have fun…just keep in mind the name will be used for an adult dog much longer than a little pup!
Something else to consider with this breed is doing it as they do in the “old country”…
Naming Your French Dog:  The “One Letter Per Year” System
Since 1926, the French registry for dogs has followed a system that makes it easy to determine the age of a dog by its registered name. Dogs born within the same calendar year have names starting with the same letter. For example, Josie and Jet were both born in 2014. Over the years, the letters K, Q, W, X, Y and Z were eliminated because it was difficult to find names beginning with them. Every 20 years, the system starts back with letter A.
